3 - 5 Years Old 9:00-9:50am Sundays
Godly Play
Children are invited to meet in the sanctuary of the church at 9:00am for some singing. After 10 minutes or so, they will be led to classroom space, or 'atriums'.
One goal of all of our Sunday School classes is to create a safe plae where young people feel welcomed, valued, and a contribuing part of a Christian community.
A
goal of the Godly Play program is to tell the stories of scripture in a
particular way that is intriguing to children, and encourages their
imagination and independent thinking. We want them to know the
foundational stories of our faith because we believe there is truth in
them abo
ut the love of God that will heop them live out thier Baptismal
Covenant.
Another more sublte goals it to teach a
rythm tha tthey will recognize in our worship service. They enter
the atrium space calmly and gather in a circle around the adult
storyteller. Each child is greeted by name, and they are praised
for ways they have shared of their time, tlaent, or treasure in the
previous week. A candle is lit. A story from scripture
unfolds. Each child has an opportunity to internalize that story,
or a story from a previous day, through art or play. They gather
back into the circle for a feast (usually crackers and juice) that
mirrors the Eucharistic feast.
They
say a prayer together, receive a blessing from the teacher, and are
dismissed at 9:50. For more information on godly play go to
