St. Mary's Episcopal Church

A Christ-centered community with a mission to express God's love for all people.

Age 9 - 12 Sunday School  9:00-9:50am

The main goal is to create a safe place where young people feel welcomed, valued, and a contributing part of a Christian community remains true in this class.

Another goal is to revisit some of the classic stories from scripture, this time looking more deeply into the historical context in whic h they were sritten.  These young people will learn something about what it must have been like for people living in the times of these stories, and the social and political implications of God's word to God's people.  In addition to scripture they will also lean about the Church and the Sacraments.  Teh Episcopal Children's C urriculum, or ECC, is excellent and a perfect choice for this age group.  For more information  on ECC, visit:  www.livingthegoodnews.com/ecc.htm#overview

The format is similar to Godly Play, in that the young people are welcomed by name, asked about and affirmed in the ways they recently shared of their time, talent, or treasure.  A candle is lit.  They then discuss a particular story or subject and internalize it through projects or games.  There is always a feast, a closing prayer, and a blessing.

Jim DeLuca and Julie Dunlop teach this class.
