Community Life
Children and Youth are important to our community Social Life St. Mary’s is a place that likes to party! All of our events are either geared to incorporate children or have a parallel children’s program happening at the same time.
![]() Our goal is to create many intergenerational relationships. At these social events your child has a chance to know and be known by people who have promised to know their name and help raise them in the Christian faith and life. Please help your child learn about what it means to be a part of a community by participating in things like our annual Talent Show, or clean-up days, or the decorating of the church for Advent, or setting up tables for a picnic, or swinging at a pinyata at the Epiphany party, or loading the dishwasher after coffee hour.
![]() Service Life The Justice Committee and the MDG Committee at St Mary’s are very active, and both are constantly looking for ways to involve children in acts of charity and justice. Here are a few of the programs they are eager to have children be involved with: MDGs – Millennial Development Goals These are the 8 goals adopted by the United Nations to cut global poverty in half by the year 2015. At St. Mary’s children can learn about education and health care and clean water and sustainable development and care for the earth. Throughout the year there are various opportunities for learning and action. Please encourage your child’s participation and leadership.
![]() St. Philip’s Food Shelf Once a week we gather the donated food and serve it to needy people in Frogtown. Your child can be involved by bringing food each week, collecting coins, by learning about hunger, or by directly serving at the food shelf. For more about the foodshelf, go here. ![]() ![]() Pine Ridge Book Drive Your child can take a leadership role in gathering quality books to be given to children in South Dakota. This drive happens every spring. For more on this, go here. |
