ECC - Episcopal Children's Curriculum

Grades 5 & 6

Sundays, 9 - 9:50am

Teachers: Jim Deluca & Julie Dunlop

The main goal of creating a safe place where young people feel welcomed, valued, and a contributing part of a Christian community remains true in this class.

Another goal is to revisit some of the classic stories from scripture, this time looking more deeply into the historical context in which they were written. These young people will learn about what it was like for people living in the times of these stories, and the social and political implications of God’s word to God’s people. In addition to scripture they will also learn about the Sacraments and the Church. The Episcopal Children’s Curriculum, or ECC, is excellent and a perfect choice for this age group. For more information on ECC, visit http://www.livingthegoodnews.com/ecc.htm#overview

The format is similar to Godly Play, in that the young people are welcomed by name, asked about and affirmed in the ways they recently shared of their time, talent, or treasure. A candle is lit. They then discuss a particular story or subject and internalize it through projects or games. There is always a feast, a closing prayer, and a dismissal

Tweeners

A youth group for 5th and 6th graders

Wednesday nights              6 - 7 pm

The goals for the Tweener Seekers group are two-fold: we want to help children in the "tween" years gain the foundation for a positive, faithful Christian life, while helping them learn the skills they need to successfully maneuver the teen years. Weekly gatherings could include a service component (such as helping out at the Episcopal Church Home), a time to learn about the Episcopal Church and our Christian heritage, or a fun activity which will help tweens gain essential assets for a successful transition into adolescence.
