The person we seek:
- Loves to sing and is excellent at encouraging others to find their singing voice.
- Is exceptional at teaching new music to both music readers and non music readers.
- Knows or is willing to learn the fundamentals of liturgy in the Episcopal tradition, and yet is excited by creating innovations to that liturgy that will speak to God's love more clearly in the 21st century.
- Has a knowledge of and interest in a broad range of musical styles, such as music from a variety of cultures around the globe; chant; the various Episcopal hymnals (or is willing to learn); and secular music from the popular culture.
- Is able to select music lyrics that reflect the theology of the service.
- Tends to their own spiritual, physical, and mental well-being.
- Believes that all God's children, without exception, are welcome at the holy table.
The job description:
- Lead music for the new service each Sunday 2/hrs
- Work collaboratively with rector, staff, and liturgy team in choosing and evaluating themes, tone, etc 2/hrs
- Invite/recruit, rehearse, and offer gratitude for volunteers from the congregation who share in the music leading (drummers, pianists, vocals, etc) 4/hrs
- Choose music for each Sunday and provide that music for the bulletin producer by Tuesday noon of each week 2/hrs
- Lead the occasional extra service, such as Holy Week, Christmas, etc, not to exceed 3 services in a year.
10 hrs/wk, $200/wk (negotiable)
