Welcome Babies Party – August 23, 2009
Babies, babies, babies. Lots of new babies at St. Mary’s and we’ll celebrate with a party during coffee hour. Each baby receives a frame signed by the parishioners and, of course, there is cake for all! Another party is planned for sometime in January, 2010.
Fall Picnic – September 13, 2009
We bid goodbye to summer and come together to reconnect after summer travels and vacations.
It also marks the return of activities on the regular calendar of events. Come join us for grilled brats/burgers and lots of homemade salads and desserts.
Talent Show – October 10, 2009
Oh we have talent – you can count on that! Anything goes – yodeling, cart wheeling, dog tricks, original poetry reading, juggling, serious musical stuff, lip syncing, and on and on. All ages are welcome to come – either to perform or be a member of the audience. The talent show follows a delicious meal of pasties – imported from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan – salad, and yummy desserts. Make a night of it!
Lessons and Carols – December 20, 1009
Come sing carols and listen to beautiful Advent and Christmas music prepared by our choirs,
interspersed with lessons from scripture foretelling the arrival of Christ. All this while
smelling the post-service feast – and we mean feast – of pork and mulled wine and minted peas and everything! It’s a lovely evening and provides you with a great opportunity to invite friends who like either good music or good food or both, or those just wanting a dash of that holiday spirit! And if you want a chance to wear that Christmas velvet, this is it! (Not required, of course.)
Epiphany Party – January 3, 2010
There is a special tradition at St. Mary’s where a gold ring (melted down from rings of a few parish matriarchs) is hidden in the cake which will be served at the party. Whoever discovers the ring in their piece of cake is thereby declared to be the King or Queen of the Epiphany Party! The children also celebrate by breaking piñatas and enthusiastically scrambling to pick up the gazillion pieces of candy. The party immediately follows the 10:00 service.
Auction – February 6, 2010
Going once . . . Going Twice . . .SOLD! This is our huge fantastically fun fundraiser for the church. We drink nice wine and eat tasty hors d’oeuvres while we try to outbid each other during the silent auction for artwork, jewelry, gift certificates donated by local businesses, and much more. After we sit down for a great dinner, we begin the live auction where everything gets crazy and wild as we bid against each other for really fun stuff that hopefully will raise lots of dollars (our budget is very dependent on a successful auction night)! Popular items like theme dinners in people’s homes, boat trips, cabin stays, pilates classes, picnics, services (haul away your junk, wash your windows, organize a closet, design/plan a garden) . . . all bring out the heartiest of bids! You’ll have a good time – we guarantee it.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and Races - February 16, 2010
Come for pancakes and sausages and enjoy good company on the eve before Lent begins.
After dinner, the children then retreat outside (weather depending) where we give them a frying pan and flapjack and ask them to run relay races – without losing the flapjack, of course. Lots of fun. Come join us.
Rummage Sale – May 1, 2010
Our garage sales are a blast. We start the sale Saturday morning and continue through mid-afternoon. You know the routine . . . clothes, dishes, toys, lawn stuff, sporting goods, and on and on. We’ll sell you a cup of coffee and a home-made goodie while you’re browsing the church and the yard . . . we certainly don’t want you to go hungry! This is another one of our annual fund raisers.
Spring Picnic – May 23, 2010
Another chance to gather together for a big cookout and practice your picnic skills (both cooking and eating) before the summer season begins. It also marks the end of the scheduled calendar of events for the Sunday School year – V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N!
