Souper Bowl

"Lord even as we enjoy the Super Bowl
football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl
of soup to eat."
This prayer in 1990 inspired a youth group in South Carolina to start Souper Bowl of Caring
by which the youth collected money after their church service to feed
the hungry. Now our youth as well as youth from 50 states are leading
this same effort every Super Bowl Sunday after the church services.
Together they have raised over 41 million dollars. The donations are
reported to the national headquarters but the money donated stays in
the local community to help people who are hungry. This outreach is in
loving memory of Dick Mayer who passionately served the Youth Ministry
at St. Mary's for many years.
